Ready to Die – Ready to Live

June 29, 2009 · 2 Comments

“Death often happens suddenly. A car accident, a plane crash, a fatal fight, a war, a flood, and so on. When we feel healthy and full of energy, we do not think much about our deaths. Still, death might come very unexpectedly.

How can we be prepared to die? By not having any unfinished relational business. The question is: Have I forgiven those who have hurt me and asked forgiveness from those I have hurt? When I feel at peace with all the people I live with, my death might cause great grief, but it will not cause guilt or anger.

When we are ready to die at any moment, we also are ready to live at any moment.” - Henry Nouwen

The present is a good time to present the present.

At the Army base, a bass was painted on a bass drum.

A dove dove into the bushes.

I didn’t object to the object.

How can I intimate this to my most intimate friends?

Slow Down-Your Movin’ Too Fast

June 24, 2009 · 1 Comment

I recently have discovered how busy people seem to be.

Every phone call, not matter how short, is interrupted by several other calls.

Some people go on and on about how busy they are, overworked and overwehlmed, almost to the point of boasting. I am so busy, because I am so important.

I am also aware that there are many who have no options; who must work exhausting hours simply to survive. But I am speaking about those who choose to keep up a frenetic pace that seems largely self-imposed, unnecessary — and unenjoyable.

I have become a man in a hurry even when I had no need to hurry.

Here are a few traps that encourage busyness:

It is so easy with cellphones and Blackberry’s a touch away.

It is a kind of high.

It is a status symbol.

We’re afraid we’ll be left out if we slow down.

We avoid dealing with life’s really big issues — death, global warming, AIDS, terrorism — by running from task to task.

We do not know how not to be busy.

We are so constantly occupied that we don’t know how to be unoccupied.

Maybe we need to reexamine our priorities to determine what really matters.

Adkin’s Diet

June 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I have been on a diet for about 14 days 6 hours and 3 minutes.

I said about. Pray for me.

Here are a few quotes a friend gave to me about dieting:

The reason some people are overweight is because there are times when they just go starch-craving mad.

Don’t wail on the scale if you cheat when you eat.

The successful diet is based on eating more and more of less and less.

For most of us a diet is a brief period of starvation followed by immediate gain in weight.

A girdle is used to keep figures from telling the truth.

Jesus’ Freedom

June 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

“Jesus was truly free.  His freedom was rooted in his spiritual awareness that he was the Beloved Child of God.  He knew in the depth of his being that he belonged to God before he was born, that he was sent into the world to proclaim God’s love, and that he would return to God after his mission was fulfilled.  This knowledge gave him the freedom to speak and act without having to please the world and the power to respond to people’s pains with the healing love of God.  That’s why the Gospels say, ‘Everyone in the crowd was trying to touch him because power came out of him that cured them all!’” - Henri Nouwen

Enjoying My Coffee

Starbucks Corp. is making changes to the way it grinds and brews coffee as it tries to win back customers amid economic weakness.  (Headlines from online news report)

I buy my coffee every morning at Exxon. They have 8 differeny “favors” plus all that fancy stuff. I buy my thermal coffee cup refill for $ .96. My favorite is the Columbian deep roast.

Wakeup Starbucks and smell the coffee.
